Afsat Communications Uganda Limited was established in 1994 and is a subsidiary of Afsat Communictions Ltd. It was set up to provide high-end VSAT satellite data network solutions for large corporations, banking sector and government institutions in Uganda and Central Africa. iWay has since become the flagship brand for Afsat’s three core services; iWay broadband, iWay Dedicated and iWay Corporate Networks.

In April 2002, Afsat Uganda began to offer a low cost direct VSAT satellite broadband Internet access solution branded “iWay” using VSAT Technology supplied by Hughes.

Currently Afsat Uganda’s team have designed, installed and operate private VSAT satellite wide area networks (WAN) for large organizations like Citibank Uganda, Diamond Trust Bank(U) Ltd, Uganda Revenue Authority (URA), amongst others. The company also supports and conducts maintenance services in partnership with world class telecommunication companies such as Telecoms SA, British Telecom, Transtel and the like where it provides local support and regular maintenance services for large corporate VSAT satellite wide area networks (WANs) which includes most banks and other enterprises such as EADB Bank, PWC, International Rescue Committee, Barclays Bank and African Alliance to mention a few.

There are over 450 iWay VSAT terminals currently deployed in Uganda, with some in Southern Sudan and Rwanda as well.
